Traces is an online literary journal publishing Canadian poetry, essays, reviews, and interviews.

We accept submissions from Canadians at home or abroad, contributors residing in Canada, or international writers engaging with Canadian culture, art, history, landscape, or experience.

We accept original submissions in English. Translations are welcome with permission from the original author.

Terms of Publication

We welcome simultaneous submissions. However, if your work is accepted elsewhere, we ask that you email us right away to withdraw your submission. We do not accept previously published work.

Rights revert to the author upon publication. However, we retain the option to reprint content on our website, social media, and in print unless authors have expressly requested otherwise.

We ask that Traces be acknowledged as the first place of publication when work is republished.

Unfortunately, we are unable to remunerate authors at this time. We hope this will change as we continue to grow.

Timelines

We publish two issues per year in May and October. Submissions received before April 1 will be considered for the May issue, and submissions received before September 1 will be considered for the October issue.

We are interested in interviews with Canadian writers and artists whose work engages with faith. We are also open to interviews with professionals in other fields actively engaging with faith and the arts in Canada. (1000-3000 words)

Please use this form to submit interview pitches, completed interviews for editorial review, and interview projects solicited by our editors.

All forms are welcome. We are especially fond of formal poetry and well-crafted free verse. Please send no more than five poems at a time.

We accept reviews of Canadian books by Christian writers or writers whose work engages with faith in Canada. We will also accept reviews of books by non-Christians which might interest our readers. (500-2000 words)
